Family Voice Norfolk is hosting it’s second full day conference for the parents and carers of children with special and additional needs.

Speed dating style information sessions: Service providers to offer free 15 minute consultation sessions (bookable on the day) where you can discuss specific issues with professionals on a one to one basis.

Workshops: Throughout the day there will be a series of 30 minute workshops run by providers from Children’s Services, Health, Education and the Voluntary Sector. They will share information on a range of topics and listen to your experiences.

A live music event - local band Cutback are performing a fundraising gig to raise funds for DSN.  Cutback have performed at Norwich's Waterfront and Norfolk Showground, Ipswich's Royal Oak and King's Lynn's Ye Olde Maydens Head.

Tickets are £5 each or £3 each for members with DS.  There is a bar, free parking and a raffle will be held on the night.

We are delighted to invite your family to the 2011 Young Down’s Group Christmas Party. There will be music, party games, a DIY lunch and Father Christmas himself will be in attendance in his wonderful multi-sensory winter grotto. If you haven’t been to the Young Down’s Group before, this is a great opportunity to meet other families of children with Down’s syndrome in the region.

Age range suitable for children with DS aged 0-11yrs and their families.

Cost £3 per person – suggested age groups 8-12yrs and 13-18yrs to run simultaneously (ages flexible)

The session will be run by qualified Badminton England Coaches (CRB checks in place) who have experience in both mainstream and special needs schools e.g. Harford Manor and Parkside. The coaching will be geared towards Members’ age and ability, the emphasis is on fun and fitness to include some basic badminton skills to encourage hand to eye coordination using equipment provided.

Players should bring a drink of water in a plastic bottle to sip court-side during the session, wear comfortable clothing and trainer type footwear. There will be some seating court-side for the youngsters to sit out for short breaks or whilst turn-taking on court. Please arrive 10mins before commencement of session.

If you have already received your booking confirmation, you do not need to anything further, just turn up on the day.

Free parking behind Bob Carter Centre – access via unmade road adjacent to Barclays Bank, keep left for Bob Carter car park.  The onsite cafe serves snacks/food, at reasonable prices, as well as usual tea/coffee and soft drinks, presenting an opportunity for parents/carers to share a coffee and a chat together in comfortable surroundings.

Down’s Syndrome Norfolk will pay the entrance fee for members with Down’s Syndrome up to age 15 and a carer for each.  Pettits have kindly offered DSN a discounted rate for other attendees. Since the park is close to Norwich we are asking members to make their own way there.  We will be meeting up for lunch at 12 o’clock at the main picnic area for those families who wish to join us.

Celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Young Down's Group and meet up with other DSN members for a family picnic at Eton Park. 

Bring your own picnic and something to sit on.

Family members of all ages welcome.

DSN have booked a children's entertainer to come along from 1:30pm for 2hrs; Stevie Spud will be showing us some magic tricks and teaching us some circus skills which we can all have a go at for fun!

A DSN collection box will be available should you wish to make  a voluntary contribution to help towards the cost of the entertainment.

Wroxham and Hoveton Lions Annual Charity Event -

The organisers will have 2 Spitfires from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight doing a display on Sunday the 14th August, time TBC and possibly a Red Arrows flyby if event request can be scheduled.

A variety of food is available from caterers throughout the event from traditional burgers and hot dogs to hog roast to crepes.

The event will be wheelchair and buggy-friendly.  The ticket price includes prizes and a light buffet served after the Treasure Hunt at the Trafford Arms.  Family members of all ages welcome.

Entrance ticket £6.00 per adult, £3.00 per child children under 5yrs. 'Free entry'.  A donation of £2.00 per ticket will be given to DSN. 

There is also a 'Family Room' within the Playhouse in addition to coffee, snacks and bar facilities.  'Pay and Display' Car park (free Blue Badge parking) in Monastery Court, accessed from Elm Hill. 

After the Treasure Hunt, prizes will be presented by the Sheriff of Norwich at the Trafford Arms from 4:30pm, including a light buffet.

After a great launch night, AJ's returns for a Summer Party club night at OPEN and is aimed at young people with Learning Difficulties and Disabilities aged 13 – 25, using art, music and dance to inspire.  It’s also an inclusive event, so friends, support workers and carers can attend as well.  Please note that anyone can bring a support worker or carer, but if young people are 18 – 25 then they must bring somebody or their statement.

DSN Committee-member Gaynor is organising a sponsored walk around Whitlingham Country Park to raise funds for Down's Syndrome Norfolk.  The path around the Broad is three miles long and Gaynor's partner Jason plans to make ten circuits - a total of 30 miles!  The idea is for other members to match Jason's marathon+ march by completing just one or two circuits.  The route around the broad has lots of benches for rests and is wheelchair and buggy friendly.  If you'd like to take part or sponsor one of the registered participants, please contact Gaynor.  Or bring a picnic and come along to meet up with friends and cheer on the walkers!  Email Gaynor to register or dsninfo@downsyndrome-norfolk.org.uk for extra sponsorship forms.
